Description
The Hump Jumper, also known as a bulky seam aid or Gina jig, is a small wedge-shaped tool designed to make sewing over thick seams and bulky fabric layers easier. It helps keep the presser foot level when it reaches a raised seam or thick transition, allowing the feed dogs to maintain better contact with the fabric.
The tool features a thicker end and a thinner end, allowing you to choose the appropriate height depending on the thickness of the fabric layers. By supporting the presser foot as it moves over the bulky area, it helps reduce problems such as skipped stitches, uneven stitch lengths, fabric feeding difficulties, and needle breakage.
To use it, sew up to the thick seam with the needle down, lift the presser foot, and position the appropriate side of the hump jumper against the bulky area to level the foot. Lower the presser foot onto the tool and continue sewing slowly over the raised section. Once the presser foot has cleared the thick transition, the tool can be removed and sewing can continue normally.
It is a useful accessory for sewing denim, thick hems, multiple fabric layers, bags, quilts, and other projects where bulky seams can make smooth sewing difficult.
