Hemming Fishbone

Description

Hemming Fishbone, also known as fishbone hem tape or Ban-Roll tape, is a specialized loosely woven tape used to create clean, narrow, and professional-looking hems. It is especially useful when working with delicate, lightweight, or slippery fabrics such as chiffon, silk, and lightweight cotton, which can be difficult to control when creating narrow hems.

The fishbone acts as a temporary edge stabilizer, helping to prevent lightweight fabrics from shifting, stretching, or puckering while sewing. It also gives you better control over the width of the hem, making it easier to achieve a consistent finish.

One of its useful features is that the lengthwise strands can be removed to adjust the tape to the desired hem width. This makes it suitable for very narrow hems and allows greater flexibility when working on different sewing projects. It is also useful for curved edges, circular skirts, ruffles, and spiral hems where maintaining an even hem can be challenging.

After the hem has been stitched and secured, the fishbone tape can be gently pulled out, leaving a clean and neatly finished hem.
